Removing a Dev Site

From Metro Studios Knowledgebase

Jump to: navigation, search

Once a site is launched from the dev server and is on a live environment (and the dev site isn't needed anymore) we can clean them off of the servers and remove the DNS entry for it. To do this, you need to perform the following steps:

  1. Remove site from apache available sites list by running
    sudo a2dissite DOMAIN.METRO-STUDIOS.COM
  2. Verify site is removed from available sites
    cd /etc/apache2/sites-available/
    1. If the vhost file (DOMAIN.METRO-STUDIOS.COM) exists, remove it with the following command:
      sudo rm DOMAIN.METRO-STUDIOS.COM
  3. Restart Apache
    sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart -k graceful
  4. Remove file structure from vhosts folder
    sudo rm -rvI /var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN.METRO-STUDIOS.COM
    * Note that this is a very dangerous command as it will remove anything and everything within the directory specified. DOUBLE and TRIPLE check that you've selected the correct directory before executing. Alternatively, you can use SSH to log in and delete the files manually.
  5. Log in to our Go-Daddy account and remove the corresponding A Host entry for metro-studios.com
